Some Snippets from Humana 2.0

Humana 2.0 has come and gone. From my perspective it was a powerful and inspiring experience.

The main speakers (Alex McManus, Gerardo Marti, David Arcos, Thorsten Moritz, and Erwin McManus) were all excellent. In addition to their powerful addresses, all of them were readily accessible for conversation after their talks.

In addition, the atmosphere of Humana was rich and evocative. It was cyber-cool. This was enhanced by the Urban Poets (the dance team from Mosaic in Los Angeles) and by an outstanding band, Jettison Never, from Tenessee.

As I debrief over the next few days, I will share more, but here are a few nuggets:

Erwin on leadership:

“The danger is that we reach a level of influence where we are afraid to risk everything.”

“You cannot do anything meaningful in life without creating conflict.”

“Live your life as if the future you imagine is true.”

Thorsten on the Church:

“Are we being God’s people who reflect the Christ event to the world.”

Alex on Missional Leadership:

“The Gospel comes to you to go to a place beyond you.”

“If we don’t give ourselves to the work that the Holy Spirit is doing, we will find ourselves further and further away from what he is doing.”

“Innovation is always de-synchronized with the present.”

“The head that nods yes does not equal the heart that says, ‘Let’s go.’”

David Arcos on the need for creativity:

“We create art because it costs lives not to create art at Mosaic.”

  1. Brian, It was great to meet you f2f! I agre - the speakers were all great. Lot’s of thought provoking, faith stretching insight. Your input during the breakout sessions was good as well! Lot’s to process. Looking forward to reading your book when it comes out!

  2. I, too, felt Humana 2.0 was inspiring. It was also a “stretching point” for me. It was nice to meet you and your wife.

If J ever decides to do that picture of heaven–I have a word that might help–mystery. Should she the the art, I’d love to see it.

  3. Brian,

Thanks for being the first to post a comment to my new blogspot. I am excited about utilizing this technological tool.

It was good to see you and get to spend some time with you at the Conference.

I hope I will get an opportunity to take one more course with you before graduation. I have an OT Exegesis left to take …

  4. Hi Stephen and Elizabeth,

It was so cool to figure out that we knew each other through Xanga! It is amazing how small the world becomes via the Web.

I look forward to hearing about God’s movement in TN.

    Peace,
    Brian

  5. Sean,
I am looking forward to more conversations, bro.

    Peace,
    Brian

  9. James — it was a powerful conference. I was at the Mosaic conference of which you wrote. Humana kicked it up several notches.

Eriq — Great to hear from you. Hope all is well in N.M.

  10. Hi Brian,

Great to see you again in FL as well. Funny, I was at the Orlando Regional James spoke of too a few years ago and you are right - Humana was at another level. See you the next time I’m in Florida.
