Obituary: Eminent Biblical Scholar Brevard S. Childs died on Saturday

Brevard S. Childs

Brevard Childs was one of the seminal Old Testament scholars and biblical theologians of our time. He was one of my heroes and a favorite conversation partner in serious biblical scholarship. He was a stalwart at Yale Divinity School for over forty years. He was a decisive voice in the 20th century for the importance of the Canon as a whole for shaping a coherent and Christian biblical theology. He was a master of the critical biblical methods, but he will be best remembered for his persistence in constructing and deploying a biblical theology for the Church of today. He remained active in retirement with a manuscript in process at the time of his death. He was 83 years old. You can read an excellent obituary here.

I also found a blog devoted to the work of Brevard S. Childs maintained by doctoral student D. Driver.
